He received a special scholarship to attend Columbia without first completing high school. Graduating from Columbia University with a BA degree, majoring in physics, Mr. Harris did research in theoretical and high energy physics. Leaving the scientific arena, Herbert worked at Time Magazine in New York City before launching a free lance writing career. He teamed up with Lucien Farrar to write How To Make Money In Music, a highly popular guide book to the music industry, published by Arco/Prentice Hall.
